Re: Vibration reduction

One of the reasons I purchased the Nikon 105 instead of the Tamron 90 was because of VR. Are you using it outdoors? If so, even small wind gusts will create movement in the frame. You need to make sure you have a fast enough shutter speed to also stop motion.

Re: Vibration reduction

vr can be the cause of blurred pics if used on a tripod!
vr is of minimal effect when at minimum distance with a macro lens such as the nikon 105vr.
vr will prevent the effect of camera shake but will not prevent blur due to the subject moving.

Re: Vibration reduction

I use indoor and outdoors. Indor i get very good result (unfortunately worse than with Canon). Outdoors is a problem. Minimal distances is always a problem, but this is quite normal. I'm more annoyed at the large distances, 0.5 -1 m where the percentage of good pictures is small. With my old canon (canon d60+canon 100 mm 2.8 IS L USM) no problems. Almost all the pictures are great.

Re: Vibration reduction

How to test VR. My nikon 105 Micro, works very well when using a tripod. but in hand hold situations ..

Shouldn't be that difficult.

Using your camera, and lens, shoot indoor, M mode, 1/80 with VR on and one with VR off. Check your image at 100% view on your computer monitor.

During focusing, you should hear a slight whirl aside from the SWM.

VR is wonderful, but with the 105mm when you're shooting macro it's not going to help you handheld when depth of field varies with only slight movement. Make sure what you may perceive to be a "movement" issue has nothing to do with that type of movement. Nikon VR works very well minimizing normal vibration during normal photographic situations. I put macro photography outside of that.

And yes, turn VR off when using a tripod.
