Nice capture Marcel. What kind of flash do you use when doing macro photography? Sometimes the lights isn't too good when using extension tubes. I may need to use a diffuser if I'm going to use my speedlights.

No flash for now but thinking about getting something. With the D700 raise iso up and up and up. :)

Just got a 55 1.2 MF. Here are 2 shots I did on the run late afternoon.

I had an opportunity to break out my MF lenses again. Taken with the Nikkor 135mm f2.8 Ai'd.

Thanks Jack. It's a classic lens that is under utilized.

And you forgot to add that it is cheap!!!

I think I paid 60 bucks for my copy with caps and a CL-8 hard case...an incredible bargain!

At about twenty yards, F 5.6 in the daylight sun, and a full figure portrait the 135/2.8 will flat get it on like no other.

That's really cheap. I paid twice as much with mine but it's still in excellent (if not pristine) condition.

Another shot with the Nikkor 135mm f2.8 Ai'd. This might be a little too long so the 105mm f2.8 or 2.5 would be ideal FL.

Mine is not Ai'd and user grade and I bought it like two years ago...so 120 for an Ai'd version in excellent condition is a great price for the power - CHEAP!

I have a 105/1.8 in my sites but I'll tell you about another little gem I would like to have too...especially if I had a DSLR...a late version black barrel 85/1.8 (unfortunately it is a non Ai lens thank goodness for conversions!)....and they are very very reasonable considering the kick they provide.

Here's my first shots with the newly acquired 105 2.5 Ais. It has something so sweet. Very nice bokeh. I'll have some more shots tomorrow.

The nice thing about the MF lenses is that they are so smaller than the autofocus ones. The focus motor and the electronics do take quite a bit of space in the lens casing.

The newer lenses seem to flare a little less though than these oldies. I guess "nano coating" has it's benefits.

But overall, it's nice to focus by turning the focus on the lens.

Congratulations on the new aquisition Marcel...I'm am glad to see someone finally has a copy of the legendary 105 in their arsenal. I would be very grateful to you if you might start a 105 thread...the reason being I have seen a ton of photos made with the 105 but nearly all of them film shots. I would very much like to see a range of digital work made with the 105.
