Using 1 strap lug on my D7100

As a backup, a few people here are using the BOSTAIL. BlackRapid pays attention and came out with the Tether Kit last year to address a concern such as yours.

Nothing wrong with being careful. I have yet to see where a strap mounted to the tripod mount has failed due to normal use.

Enjoy :)

I'm confused. The Bostail seems to be a alternative means of attaching your BR strap. And so frees up your tripod mount. Are people using this with the normal BR mounting system?

all i done was cut a small V in the plastic mount cover and i attached my BR clip straight to it, my tripod plate is then mounted to the bottom of my camera.

I do the same thing... I simply removed the little black plastic bits from the split ring and attach the carabiner of my Black Rapid wrist strap directly to that. I like the BR straps, I just don't like my camera hanging from the tripod socket. Well, actually, at this point I'm using a sling strap made by someone else along with a climbing carabiner but the concept is the same.

What ARE those black plastic things for, anyway??

....what are your opininons of using it connected to one strap lug on the D7100 body as these were designed to hold the camera vs the tripod socket..thanks all.

I've done this with a Domke strap on my gripped D300s for years. Never had a problem yet.

I use the carryspeed strap and the arca swizz ofset plate alongh with my batterygrip on my D7100 so I can easly go on a tripod ;)

Even with a big 17-55mm 2.8 and battery grip I feel good about it ;)

Exactly the same here (thanks to suggestions on here). I attach to the left (other side from the shutter release).

New here but not to cameras. I have been attaching my BR to the D ring that attaches my tripod plate to the camera. Been carrying it like that for 2 years on a D7000/7100 with a 70-300 VR. Never had a problem.

What's the best strap to use? I'm trying to get away from the traditional Nikon strap.
Not sure there's one single answer to this question... Personally I like the BosStrap because it's light and flexible. I don't use a BosTail with it, though, I use carabiner and a split ring attached to the strap lug on the camera body. I also love the Black Rapid wrist strap. Black Rapid also makes some very popular sling-straps (I have a couple) but I find them bulky and hard to store. Again, that's why I prefer the BosStrap.

True, which is why I chose the Metro style, not as bulky. The BosStrap is a good choice as well.

I use the BlackRapid Sport, no problem for me (or the camera) at all. Never heard of one dropping, the tripod hole should be able to hold the load and some.

I'm thinking about doing the same. But, I'm not 100% sure how you did this. If I can attach my BR strap without using the bostail I would feel better.

just a small sharp knife, made a small v in the center of the plastic and kept trying the strap hook until it was free and easy to clip on, 2 mins and it was done,
