URGENT!!!!! eBay Hacked! Take precautions now!

eBay announced today that they were indeed hacked and a massive amount of customer data was stolen.

Take precautions right now, change your password and check your accounts.

eBay right now is locked down and it is difficult to get logged in to do the change but, according to eBay, accounts cannot be altered by outside means at this point and accounts are safe. Whatever.

I didn't have problems getting on earlier to change my password, but it sounds like as news spreads more people are hitting the site.

This is at least one of the reasons I never buy directly off the internet. There is a world of crooks out there who spend all their waking hours hatching schemes to bilk us out of our money and it is unfortunate that e-bay was so slow to inform their members about this security breach and have still given very little information about this incident. The few dollars that you might save on this and similar sites are not worth the risk you run.

Not sure if ebay sites in Europe are affected but changed my password without an issue.

Changed mine this morning no problem but the important one paypal they say is on a different system,cant really see what any one can do if they get into my ebay account,guess they could buy loads of stuff i wont pay for although would my wife believe it was some one else bought the 600mm nikon lens

Also, make sure that if you link your PayPal account to anything such as EBay or Amazon, that you use a different password for each!

Since you use your email address to log into each, it's not a big guess for any would-be thief who knows your ebay password to then try logging into paypal using the same details.

I spend a lot of my day pen testing, and the number of people who use the same never-changing-password for everything......

I logged on immediately after I saw it on the news and I got a page that said the site was busy and to check back later. It also included the message to be sure to change my password and that all user accounts were safe at the moment and locked from use to any outside unauthorized access.
