Urban Flowers

I was up hiking when my lil sis found this flower. She already pulled it up so I took it on the cement in the parking lot. Using only a 18-55mm lens, I got what I think is a good shot. The closeness of the shot gave a cool effect to the surrounding cement.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome

A couple of things come to mind here bdog. 1. Composition, the primary element, your flower, is too central, I think it needs to be sitting on at least one of the third lines suggest you google " rule of thirds" if you are unsure what I am talking about here 2. the image seems to be slightly front focused that is to say that the sharpest focus point is slightly in front of the flower, it does look a tad soft too me. I like your thinking here though, there an image to be captured everywhere if you can only just see it.

Have to agree with Hminx on this one. Your flower is indeed to central. I also feel a little blur on the cement would enhance the picture as it looks a little to sharp for a background but that's just one opinion. I would probably have made the flower larger/got closer so you see more of the colours and texture of its petals.

So here it is...

Wasn't the best Photoshop edit since I am pretty beginner. I used the smudge tool instead of the blur tool because the look wasn't as good. =)

Also I did apply one or two more little details like highlight and shadows, I think I might need to bring the highlights up a little
