U1 & u2

Hi all
i am new to this forum, i have just bought the D7000 and on trying to set up U1 & U2 in the save / load part of settings it says this is not available in this set up, WHAT does this mean.

Are you in auto or scene modes when you try to save to U1/U2?

I have dial set to U1 i may be misunderstanding do i set in a Different mode then save to U1 or U2?

Go to M, S or A Mode... set up the camera in a particular way, shutter speed, iso, aperture, focus method etc etc , then save it to either U1 or U2 via the menu then you can retrieve these particular settings in the future by switching to U1/U2 at any time quickly.
