I'll stick with my Manfrotto older style 055 tripod with the Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head. Holds all the weight I can load on it. Rock solid in all situations.

I picked up a Manfrotto 055XproB & 498RC2 ball head..
Am totally happy with it..
Even went ahead & bought a padded Manfrotto bag so it won't hurt itself

Excellent tripod and the bag was a good decision. A tripod is a nice piece of gear and should be protected as we would any other gear.

I have the same tripod with a 3 way? head, though I sort of need to get a better head as it can't take a 10x8 very well. The tripod is heavy though but I got it used a few years ago for a belting price, it will do for all I require. Its worth getting a good tripod first off though, a well made one probably will out last you. You know what they say 'buy cheap buy twice'

Alex, I still have the 3 way head my 055 came with. I refurbished it and it still works like a hot damn. I use it on my other tripod, the Hi-Ace 400 (Hi-Ace was bought out by Slik a few years ago).
