latest on this, i emailed vanguard and told then what was going on, so they have asked me to send it in for a fix or new head, so will post it on Monday after this weekends use, going to miss it, hope i can add my other head (sunpak trigger ballhead) to the tripod?
i only got it to tighten, still cant get it to open all the way, it works ok but not right, i can only turn it 3/4, should be a turn and a half at least

well i thought Pat it should be working 100%, so will send it in to get it fixed, will miss it though, never thought i would say that about a tripod, notice an improvement on my far away bird shots, so while they are few and far between at the moment i may as well get it right
Bummer. Did you buy it locally, can you just exchange it? If you must send it in, it might be worth a call to try and sweet talk/guilt them into an advanced replacement and a return shipping label. If I remember correctly, they were very quick with my rebate check if that is any indicator of service. If you bought it from a mail order company, you could give them a try too and see if you can get an advanced exchange. Good luck.
No, it won't cost much to ship just the head. I've just been having good luck with companies eager to please and sending a replacement before I return the item. Nothing camera related, just online shopping in general, but I have been getting good service lately when there are problems. Its very nice when a company will get a replacement in your hands quickly and give you time to return the old.
