Tripod mount grip?

I typically use the Nikon300/2.8 lens with the 1.7 teleconverter hand held in the field. I want a more comfortable way to hold this lens and was thinking about a grip I could attach to the tripod mount. Any help would be appreciated on where to find one.

Here is one and it is reasonably priced:

Hand grip handle for scopes and cameras. 1/4-20 screw

Welcome to nikonites! I would really consider Jack's (fotojack) suggestion myself. I think it would give you much better stability.

FOR MY 70-300MM I USE A MANFROTTO 322RC2 ON A MANFROTTO 679B MONOPOD. QUICK RELEASE PLATE COULD MOUNT TO YOUR CAMERA OR TO THE MOUNT ON YOUR LENS. Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead - Supports 11 lbs 322RC2 I CONFIGURED THE 322 THIS WAY. LEFT HAND CAN CONTROL THE 322 AND RIGHT IS ON THE CAMERA.

I hand hold the lens a lot for birds in flight shots. At other times I use my monopod.

For wild life shots try the shoulder stocks

These give the maximum freedom for following wild life and are rock steady in use. I used to have a Russian camera Photosniper and it was fantastic for following subjects. Sold it as it was a film camera.
