I am really impressed with this camera. The camera and the lens are a bit heavy but you get great pics. I am on the fence on whether to purchase the D500 or the D7200. The menu system can be intimating on the D500. How do you guys setup the F1 button and F2 button for Macro and Birding photography? I do have a question about lenses. I plan to go for the Sigma 105 Macro lens, do I need to purchase a teleconverter from Nikon or Sigma? Here are a few of my photos. I would like to get a little closer. Any suggestions would be great.
Well, your original questions were "D500 or D7200...and settings on the D500"
As far as the two bodies, D500 all the way!
As for settings and the menu system, there are all kinds of different posts about what people use for their setting. As for getting used to the menu system - trust me it will not take you long to figure it out. What I did was recently move form the D700 to the D810 and a month later I add in the D500. What I knew, I setup - what I didn't, I Google the actulal setting itself, learned about it and then played with it.
Also, watch this video on the D500 Nikon D500 Review Steve focuses on wildlife and BIF - but you'll get a good fundamental idea of the D500.
Lastly, and I see this a lot of posts here about trying/narrowing new lenses. When you barrow, rent or buy a lens or body, there can some compatibility issues. Then throw in the whole world of Macro and the sliver of DOF your working in and you can have a mess on your hands. In your photos, it seems that the focus point if off target - and that is VERY likely due to the lens NOT being aligned with the Sensor. I have been shooting for over 2 decades and I have ALWAYS had to Fine Tune all my lenses!
Just my 2 cents...
