Transferring from CF card to external Hard Disk

Hi, instead of bringing my laptop, is there something out there I can buy to transfer my data over to my hard disk? Of course the next best thing to do is bring more CF cards

I think there are small portable storage solutions, but I find them as much expensive as a small laptop and an external USB drive. The thing to remember is that if you bring a laptop you'll end up reviewing and post processing after each day and you will be distracted from the holiday with the spouse factor. I can vouch for that...

I usually carry a netbook these days when we travel. Smaller and lighter than a regular laptop, usually comes with a built-in card reader.

There *are* devices that will copy directly from a memory card to an external hard drive but for whatever reason they're ridiculously expensive; and I do mean ridiculously. Best solution, IMO, is the obvious one: carry some spares. A net-book would be the next closest thing I suppose.

Once when I really needed card space I connected my camera to my phone, and used the hotel wi-fi to upload raw files to Google Drive, then I just downloaded them again when I got home... Saves the worry of a netbook getting dropped / wiped by airport scanners / lost.

For the price of an "On the go cable" it can get you out of a scrape, even if you just store the files on your phone temporarily.

Extra cards for sure.

I've also switched to a netbook. Personally, I've always hated laptops. They're never powerful enough to do the job of a PC, and they not small enough to be truly portable.

Recently bought an ASUS Transformer T100, and I love it. It's a 10" laptop that has a detachable keyboard, so it becomes a tablet. It's the best of both worlds. This thing was made for photography on the go.
