@Smoke there are really 2 angles to this whole thing as far as I understand it after 2 years. Low-key and high-end. Low-key ends up being friends asking for small shoots, maybe their friends, and past depends on how they like what you do. Cards help, but aren't really that essential as is a site and so on. I'd say buy some card stock and just print at home if you're not going for something overly-snazzy that would guzzle all the ink. Keep shooting, use your flikr, have fun with all of this. I wouldn't even worry about a (free) website, a Facebook page or something like that will do and help with small advertizing. It's like your daily driver - low maintenance and steady going.

High-end is something I'm striving towards however well it's coming along (or not), but EVERYTHING has to be streamlined and top-notch. Like an oil company's CEO. Like that Porsche. Clean and professional site; only the best shots and shots that are purposeful for attracting intended customers; and quality made and designed cards. So don't worry about all this jazz until you start encroaching a regular 2-500$ a month from just photo work.
