Tokina 11-16.....Anyone bought one?

I had one for several years and enjoyed it immensely. It is a very sharp lens. I now tend toward vr lenses and sold it when I got my 16-85 vr. The photographer I sold it to swears by it.

There's at least a few of us around here with that lens and it's routinely suggested as one of the best wide-angles around for DX bodies. It's a tank of lens, I can tell you that; really hefty. Image quality is amazing but be prepared to correct some of the inevitable distortion that comes with shooting that wide. Lightroom and Photoshop will do the job with just a few clicks so it's hardly anything to consider in my book. Some people freak over the AF/MF "clutch" on the lens but I wish all lenses switched in that manner. It just makes more sense to me than fumbling around for a tiny little switch buried on the barrel.

In short, highly recommended!

I have the Tokina 12-24/4 and I chose that over the 11-16 because I wanted a little more flexibility. If the 11-16 is as good as the 12-24 (and I'm sure it is), it is an excellent lens. As for the price, I'm not sure you can't do better if you shop around.

It is a great DX lens... Just be aware, if you ever move to an FX body, at the 11mm end, you'll get heavy vignetting unless your FX body has a DX mode...

It's probably the most recommended Dx ultra wide, along with the sigma 10-20.

Which would you rather have, Rick? By the way, I read where Syberia-cuse is gonna get a little dose of snow tonight? 80's here in Carolina, but we paid a price. We had nearly golf ball sized hail hit us yesterday and some tornadoes down the road.

I have the 12-24 and bought it based a bit on price and greater range. Superbly pleased and the 11-16 was rated higher so you should be good to go!

In addition to landscapes, you can get some cool up close & personal shots w/ crazy background angle distortion.

I actually had the Nikon 10-24 which is nice, but If I were looking now I think it's a dead heat between the sigma and tokina. The sigma has a better range and the Tokina might have a very slight IQ edge and speed. Comes down to whats the most important to you, you can't go wrong with either. Darn you and your 80"s :)
