To bundle or not?

Re: VR?

Thanks a bunch! Just what I needed. So I should buy better long lenses with VR if I am shooting moving objects. But nor necessarily if I am just doing landscape type shots and or using a tripod right?

VR deals with camera movement, not subject movement.

Use of VR depends a lot of you, not necessarily the focal length you're using or the subject matter. VR is a tool, just like a hammer is to a woodworker. Norm Abrams doesn't pull out a hammer to cut a 2x4 in half.

Yes, VR is a good tool to have in your lenses, but it's not a cure-all for all situations. Used wisely, it can be of great benefit. Not understanding it, and not understanding when not to use it, can be an impediment.

Bundles are typically crammed full of useless and cheap crap. The camera & lenses are the only things of any redeeming quality. Everything else is junk.

This^^
The only bundle I would consider is a body and one or two Nikon lenses. That said, it would have to be a significant savings over buying the same items individually and that I would actually need that glass.

I started with a bundle and quickly realised the kit lenses weren't what I needed. If I was starting again I'd but the body only and the lens that is most suited to my needs.

Depending on the "kit" lens we're talking about. The D750 had a bundle with the 24-120mm lens, which came out cheaper then if you bought the 2 separately. I would not consider the 24-120 a kit lens.

Re: VR?

VR = Vibration Reduction. Meaning, the lens compensates for minor camera/lens movement.

Here's the best read on the matter: Nikon VR explained

Theres a bit more to it really. VR is a great handholders tool, and it is a really useful one. If you use a tripod then its not really necessary. However, VR slows your auto focus, so you'll find that most (not all) turn their VR off when shooting fast action (birds, aviation, sports etc)

In my case it was the non VR 18-55 and non VR 55-200mm lenses, the former is ok but the latter would make a better paper weight imo. I should have specified which "kit lens" I had, the 24-120mm lens is one I'd like to own.
