Things you own (besides camera gear) that your spouse doesn't get

I guess my 'things' aren't too bad in comparison to some people, but there are still things I own that I have to remind my wife why I own them (or owned after veto enacted).

Here are some of mine:

  1. car parts
  2. tools (more power?)
  3. baseball card collection

What are some of your, apparently useless, items besides camera gear?

Pistols. I have small, but well appointed, selection of pistols that I enjoy immensely. Being now divorced I have also determined they are an excellent rationality/compatibility indicator for potential girlfriends: All I have to do, typically, is mention them. The immediate reaction is pretty much all I need to see.

The current girlfriend is a superb shot I might add. Maybe a little toooo superb. If you know what I mean.

How anyone can NOT appreciate a finely tuned Smith and Wesson is just beyond me...

Original and replica (1st gen) props from Star Wars. Although useless, they are extremely valuable, so she tolerates them. Dicast Auto collection (mostly sports/racing, 1:43 and 1:18).

The wifey doesn't mind the camera equipment because she loves to have nice photos of herself. ;)

My wife is pretty tolerant and understanding (even if she really doesn't believe it) of all my things except for my 24 hour mountain bike racing and the cost, pain, damage, and injury it tends to inflict. After my last 24 hour mountain bike race she gave me an ultimatum that there would be no more.

However, I do believe there will be one more - I'll send her away to the spa that weekend. Our children have always laughed and mocked me as to what a wimp the old man is so I promised them that once they were all old enough we will as a family do a 24 hour race. When our daughter (the one we were waiting on) reached 16, old enough to race, unfortunately it was end of the race - there would be no more. She jumped for joy and then expressed how sad she was that she would never get to do the race and show her old man how much of a wimp he is. I got the last laugh the other day when I explained that some other sponsors are looking at picking up the race and that it may be back on for the family to race.

Sorry for the off-track and addition of the story, but to the topic, it would be my mountain bike/racing.

Pistols? More than one? Live in California? I didn't know any part of the Bill of Rights, let alone the Second Amendment, even existed there! Doh! There's probably an audit heading your way now.

I agree, "an excellent rationality/compatibility indicator for potential girlfriends."

The 800 classical cd collection I own is really breaking her shoes, but the 100 or so rock & roll cds are ok with her, then theirs my John Wayne collection of movies & a couple of his pictures she's not to pleased with, but the one thing she hated most she made disappear, I had a very old picture of Beethoven looking as ugly as all hell, some one took a picture of a painting & it wound up in my hands till touchenitis made it disappear, she didn't even care when I told her it may have been worth something as I have a collection of all Beethoven pictures & in my book "Beethoven as I Knew Him" & that picture was not in that book so somewhere out there is a relic that may be worth something & my wife went & threw away the only known picture of it. My small rifle collection bothers the hell out of too but she's afraid to touch them.!!
She's not too thrilled with my nikon camera & lens collection either, now you know why I keep the shot gun loaded!!

My girlfriend doesn't really care what I own. She encourages all of my hobbies, and she rarely even cares if my stuff takes up space.

She doesn't mind my collection of LARP gear (armor, weapons, shields), my guns, my guitars (though she finds my half-stack pointless and says it takes up too much space), or my Miata.

Actually, now that I think of it, she finds my Star Wars LEGO collection to be "pointless". :p

Unfortunately, there isn't a thing I own that my wife doesn't know about. She fully supports my photography, but complains when I mention getting a new lens. I have to do a better job of convincing her otherwise. :)

I would say the 3 guitars and the Yamaha keyboard with stand considering I only know about 3 guitar chords but can't really put them together and can only play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" on the keyboard. It's my intention to learn both guitar and piano someday. I think she may also be bothered by the 3000 CDs and 2000 movies but she never really says much since she knows I love music and movies. She tolerates my OCD pretty well.

I'm lucky, my wife likes my guitars,fishing gear,camera gear,hats,boots, on an on...... I can't think of anything I like that she doesn't. She even shares some collections with me like knives, and hats and precious stones as just a few examples. lol :D

I wouldn't recommend it. You won't get an accurate representation of what is most common these days. More commonly, it's more of a "live-action wargame" than a role play, with more of an emphasis on fighting. There are, of course, light touch and no touch LARP groups, but they are few and far between. LARP has become more of a sport now, with companies even going as far as to make performance gear.
