The power is out.

If you have been watching the news you know PA got hit with a major ice storm on Wednesday. My power was only out a few times the longest being about 30 minutes. I do have a generator but I did not need to get it hooked up (not saying I didn't do a test run Tuesday night) Anyway over 62000 homes were without power in my county alone and many are still without it. The worst part about this is how cold it gets at night. Hopefully most will have power by the end of today.

My daughter just sent me this picture from the Lancaster PA (they had over 40,000 outages) mall parking lot. There were over 100 trucks staging there this morning to get back at it. She saw trucks from as far away as Alabama. Full disclosure this is a cell phone pic :D

I hate ice storms. I got hit a few years ago. Lost power for around 10 days. Was not a fun time. Luckily everything but the furnace is gas. And a generator took care of the rest.

I don't mind snow but I hate ice as well. My worst was 9 days without power back in the 90's. I lost a few branches and the top of our birch tree but other than that consider ourselves very lucks. Still have family members without power.

Same one. I lived in Rochester at the time. I stood in my front yard the first night and watched 4 transformers explode one at a time down the line. Knew then we were in for trouble. This storm brought back all those memories.

I remember hearing them explode around our area as well. That, and the sound the trees made as they snapped and fell.

So, Trucks from Alabama up there to help with your snow. I wonder why the northern states did not send snow and salt trucks down to Alabama to help us out?

You would think the power utility companies would bury the cables like they do in new developments. Ice storms are really bad.
BTW Current Top 10 Snowiest US Cities | Golden Snow Globe National Snow Contest Snowiest US City Pop 100,000+ up in Erie,PA we are number one even though the Lake is frozen. The other day when we had the snow it was fluffy kind like Ivory Snow flakes (wonder if they still make that and Fels Naptha bar soap).
Think about it when was last time the Natural Gas line broke in winter (not counting earthquakes).
If the electrical lines were buried it would make it easier to take images.

Hope they get the power up and running we have 9º but the wind is 15mph making it a -6ºF.

This area has been hard-hit, too, and many homes are still without power. Today I saw at least 18 electric trucks from a company that operates in Indiana and Missouri (wish I would have had my camera with me). Not all schools have power, but the local district decided to open the schools that were fully operational rather than to lose another day. Lots of tree limbs are down and transformers are blown. Fortunately we didn't lose power, but some residents in this neighborhood have been without power for days. The hotels and motels all over are booked solid; however, many have offered discounts for those hit by the storm.
