The frustration of subject matter!

I shouldn't get bored as Colorado is a beautiful state. My same old, same old are sunrises. My door faces east and I don't miss many. I was to start a 365 and then realized it was winter and a lot of the shots would be the same "shades of gray". Right now though fall is almost here. Yeah!

Interesting article and shows great creativity. Although, not many of us have a view like that to work with. I guess we should be thankful for what we do have. Reminds me of some Zen readings about how we are always searching for something better, when the best may be right in front of us.

+1.

The view out my window is of the next door neighbor's house. If I shot out my window all day I'd either get arrested or get a punch in the nose.

I feel pretty lucky to have a combination of wide open spaces and mountains together with plenty of wildlife. Just this morning while I was on the phone I watched two antelope, a coyote and then a young bear. This evening four bull elk came down off the hill to graze. Most of my neighbors hove either wings or four legs.

Must be nice. I love Colorado but wouldn't want to live with the taxes.

We've got a jack rabbit and the occasional armadillo. :(

Once again I find myself stuggleing with shooters block! Maybe I'll just drive in a different direction each weekend.

I know the feeling very well. Have you consider night photography. Nearly everything looks more interesting at night, even boring subjects like store fronts or backyards. It's perfect for winter photography since night is so much longer these months.

I'd much prefer to be shooting in Cleveland.

Older locations have so much more interesting stuff within a shorter travel radius. I'm running out of "interesting" subjects in south Florida. If you see me posting flowers (and there's nothing wrong with photographing flowers), you know I'm bored and have absolutely nothing to pursue.

I like architecture, the older the better. Even barns.

The beach looks the same no matter where you go.

A boat is a boat is a boat.

There are some cool birds, but even that is hit and miss.

Sunrises. Sunsets. How many can I do?

So there. I've done my rant. I can relate to the frustration of subject matter.

I have tried some, but my wife hates it when I bring the camera to bed :). She's not buying the shooters block story!

Maybe you're not using the right approach, it's all in the music. You gotta go with the "Boom, chaca waa waa, Boom chaca waa waa" and trust me, she'll be fine with whatever you want to do! ;)

I don't know if I'm gonna take anymore advice from you Dave. I tried to learn all her buttons and dials with my eyes closed as you advised yesterday and I got slapped. :)

We all get it at some point or another. Solution... I like to try to shoot portraits of people just working with available light. This teaches me what can be done with different kind of lighting (backlight, side, window, etc.)

It will pass anyway, so I would't worry too much about it.

I think we all get bored shooting. I bought my wife her own Nikon and she loves to shoot as much as I do. We rented a cabin in the hills of north Georgia this next week. sits on a mountain with a great view, hot tub on the deck, pool table in the downstairs. Going to shoot to my hearts content.

Try living in New Jersey!!

When I first hit this forum in the Spring they were doing weekly photo contests which forced me to stretch what I looked to shoot in a given week. Why did they stop? I know the idea of a "contest" can get old, but what about something that emphasized a specific style or subject matter each week, or even every other week, where we would look to submit our top 1-3 photos? No judging, just critiquing and potential inspiration?
