OK. Here's one of my grandsons taken after Thanksgiving dinner. D600 w/70-200 2.8, ISO 100, f/7.1, 1/160 sec, 3 SB-800s triggered with SU-800. Tweaks in LR4 and CS6.

Really nice photo, singlerosa! Adequate focal length, lovely composition, adequate background... Maybe you should have applied a bit less flash-light, in order to minimize the "whitish" glare of the boys' faces (but it is far from being unpleasantly done here, and could be corrected with altering the amount of highlights, anyway). You could have also added a second artificial light to suppress the shadow between the boys' ears.

The most troublesome thing about flashes (in my opinion) is that glare - you know those cases when people's faces look as if splattered with white cream or powder...

And with the transforming it into black&white, and altering the horizon, an interesting effect could be achieved (the glare is less prominent...even the shadow between the boys is somehow more "natural"):

Thanks. Shot this with 3 SB-800s; one on each side of the boys (with umbrellas) and one behind. Not much setup time and not much time for retakes or lighting adjustments because they're kids. And, my studio also has a set of drums and a guitar/amp, so they wanted to play some music. Excuses, excuses, excuses.......

Yeah, I just saw your Flickr gallery - you've made a few brilliant photos of water drops! Extremely amusing is the photo of those fishermen standing on the dam, too...Keep up the good work.

Interesting that you asked for opinions on shots that now you admit to not liking... why not just trash them...?
The reason why I added these is that yes I was trying to get people to critique them, I can still learn from the ones that I don't like by finding out exactly why they are no good and learning from them. Why just trash your rubbish ones, why not study them and find out where you went wrong, PS these were taken 2 years ago with my D80.

You are absolutely right, I wasn't thinking along those lines... :black_eyed:

In my slide film days i used to give my reject bird shots to a local infants school, the teacher would go through them and keep the ones she wanted for the pupils to view in there nature lessons.
