Test for Fake Memory Cards

Sorry to anyone that clicked on the wrong Download button on the link I posted. I have a strong habit of looking at ALL of those buttons to make sure I use the right Download button. I didn't see any other way of posting the link.
To clean up all that junk that came from clicking on the wrong Button, may I suggest you download CCleaner. In there, you will find a section that you can uninstall ANY program that you don't want. And yes, I spelled CCleaner correctly. :)Do a Google on it.

People listen up. Nothing is for free. Never never download a "free program" until you know what that program wants from you. Sometimes it's just an ad platform, some programs plant bugs that could corrupt or steal your personal information. Yes I do READ the fine print & agreement.

I won't disagree there's a lot of bad free software out there, loaded with spyware, malware, what have you but there IS a lot very good, perfectly clean Freeware available as well, CCleaner is one very good example; I love that little app! You simply need to know your source and watch what you're doing, and agreeing to, during the install.

So far every card I've put in 30MB/s 60/MB/s all read 15MB/s I have to think it's my computers ability to read not the card. My computer has the built in slots.

Hi I just downloaded the UK zip file then checked the file with malwarebytes and It said it was clean of problems.

I then ran the program and all my cards are good even the one I bought from eBay

I got no programs or tool bars installed the card checker does not install at all.

Thanks for the link

I didn't encounter any read/write errors on any of my cards but I did determine I've got a few really bad apples in the mix.

All my SDHC cards are 16GB and Class 10 rated, but I had a couple Lexar branded cards that showed sustained write speeds of... (wait for it)

4MB/s (!!). Not a typo: FOUR MB/s.

Holy cow... I don't care what they cost; it's SanDisk memory cards for me from now on.

Thanks for posting this!

I just found a bad Lexar card said it had errors on it. I have a lot of cards and I'm testing them for a 13 day trip I'm about to make for my 50th birthday. That would have been bad to shoot for a day to find the card was corrupted!! I really never use it but was going to bring it because it was a 16gb card.

I've not run this yet, but is it a non-destructive test (ie. does it retain all the info currently on there?)

Hi well I ran it and it does say the card needs to be empty to test full card, but I tested mine and there were photos on the card and they were all ok at the end of the test, but the test fills the card with small files and you have to delete them to be able to use the card again, but it does not destroy any photos on the card, at least that's what happened when I ran the check.

I think to maximize your results it's best to move any data off (to preserve it) then format the card. That way the program has the full card to test. Whatever data is on it, the test won't test those sectors/blocks.

Looks good
This is one area I and many others need advice on. I mean there are so many cards! I have boxes of CF cards all fine and working, up to 8GB.
However I now need to purchase SD cards, there are so many.
The reports / reviews are at best vague.
Lexar Professional 32G SDXC vs Sandisk Extreme 32G SDHC
Same price

I'm sure everyone has their favorite but I don't think you can go wrong with SanDisk Ultra or SanDisk Extreme (the latter being their fastest) and there's really no reason not to be using Class 10. Over time I've come to appreciate the consistent quality of SanDisk products generally speaking and their SD cards are my personal choice.

My Advice: If I couldn't use SanDisk I'd go with Transcend but, really, this is just another iteration of the "Ford vs. Chevy" argument. Find a brand that works well for you, buy as many as you think you'll need, plus two spares, and then forget about it.

Hi I ran this test and because it ended with no errors I thought it was ok but now im not so sure. I bought one card with my camera from (Jessops) and one from eBay as you can see both have similar read and write speeds.

The test results are below

Card bought from Jessops

Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 15.1 MByte/s
Reading speed: 16.1 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Card bought from Ebay

Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 15.3 MByte/s
Reading speed: 17.1 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

As you can see from the attachment both are rated at 45 MB/s so should the read and write speed be faster please. the card from ebay is on the right.

Regards to you all

Both cards are rated Class 10, which means you should see a minimum transfer speed of 10MB/s (and you are).

The "45MB/s" is the maximum transfer speed the card *can* support -- "can" being the operative word here, as opposed to words like "will" or "does" -- but you won't see that rate of transfer for small files. In fact you probably won't see transfer rates anything close to 45MB/s unless you're shooting video, and even then I'm referring to the write speed.

Hope that helps.
