Telephoto with extension tubes?

Therefore, the idea of fitting a TC onto a lens and mounting it on an ET is simply defeating the object of the exercise as this is increasing the ratio between the lens and the extension tube. You can focus from further away but the subject will be much smaller. As to what a lens mounted on an ET added to a TC on the camera would give I hate to think but I would probably accept that it would be totally unusable as a set-up.

The effect of ET on a 200mm micro would be neglectable when it comes to magnification but the ET would serve as a buffer between the TC and any AF lens allowing those to function with the Nikon TC. At least that's the theory.

Today my TC20e III arrived and I shaved it. It must be the simplest mod ever.

My 200mm didn't fit since you can't fit a round peg in a square hole. It would require me to mod the lens too and that's a big no no. She's too good to risk any damage.

The 70-300mm VR fits and there's plenty of room to prevent damage. On AF she however struggles with focus and keeps jumping. On manual evidently there's no problem.

These are quick test shots; the first taken without the TC at 300 and two other with the TC at the same length. No processing done. They're handheld at low shutter so there's room for more sharpness.
