Here is my question. I will be finally be able to see my beloved 49ers play for the first time in Nov. and I wanted to know which telephoto lens I should pick up with out breaking the bank. I am sitting in the lower reserve sections so a little lower than the middle section of the stadium. I have browed Amazon reading review and all that but I also want to hear what everyone on here has to say about it. Any input would be great. I was looking around $400 price range give or take $100. Id like to pick it up with a month or so so I have time to play around with it before the game. :D

I would go with a used 300 mm f/4. You want to be as close as possible to the action. I know someone asked this before and optically a fixed prime tele will give you just so much more clarity and f/4 will probably be faster than most tele zooms going to that focal length, meaning better low light performance. If you do a search on Ebay for 300 f4 nikon you'll see some great deals in that price range (either manual or AF). If you are focusing close to infinity then AF isn't really essential assuming your camera has a bright enough viewfinder.

It would be nice to know which lenses you currently have already to make suggestions much easier. Your budget will not get you the better lenses. Probably the 70-300mm VR or 55-300mm DX lens.

Biggest difference is that the 55-300 won't fill the FX sensor. It can be used on a D3,700,600,800 d4, but it would not fill the frame. The 70-300 is a full frame lens made for full frame cameras.
