TedG's HDR Photos

Ted... Can I ask you a few questions?????

Can you explain your process a bit. My D90 only takes a max of 3 exposures varying the exposure by a variable amount... Does the D700 take more than 3? If so.. are you taking 3 exposures, adjusting the EV, and taking another set???? IOW... What exactly are you doing to get more than 3 exposures?????

Maybe I should have waited until you consented to the questions before asking.. :sentimental:

You are welcome to the answers. The D700 can bracket up to 9 individual frames +/-1 each. That's what attracted me to the D700. My D5100 brackets 3. I don't know about other Nikons. Even with the ability to only bracket 3 at a time, I believe you could manipulate the exposures, with a tripod, to do more frames. It's something you'd have to play with. I am finding that with more frames, the HDR is getting a more "realistic" look, only deeper. I'm still experimenting.

Good luck.

Just to toss an idea your way.
I am using the D5100 (which only brackets 3 frames) However I have used 8 frames on some photos simply by manualy adjusting the exposure. Granted you have to do so between each shot and requires a steady platform as well as intended target(object of the photo).

Not to steal from TedG's thread... here is my one 8-frame HDR

Throwing that out as a way not to limit yourself to the Camera's inherit capability.

Yes ABN... That's what I was contemplating... using the 3 frame exposure, and then making an adjustment outside the EV range of the first set, and making another set of exposures where the first set left off...

I haven't played with multiple exposures much for HDR... I've been using Topaz' Adjust as an add-in to LR4 and CS5, which does effectively the same with a single image...

Using a solid surface (tripod) to firmly hold the camera in place, you could take all the exposures you want. The bracketing feature is just a time saving device. You can also take only one photo and make multiple exposures while post processing for an HDR image. Lots of us do that.

I have read about doing that... I would like to try that some day just to see how it works...
