Would you please recommend a book or two that gives instructions to take good photographs... (especially using Nikon D90) ?

Langford's Photography book(s) are perhaps the best all-in-one photography book out there. This is a commonly used text book for basic photography and has been for quite a few years. I think they're on their 9th ed. now.
