Happy Happy!! My lens was fixed and I collected it on my way out for an 8 day trip :D Works just fine now.

The repair (under warranty) report said.....

F post rollers light/binding in the focus optic grooves. Lens dismantled and rollers replaced. IG lens frame and stretched zoom rubber replaced. Lens reassembled, checked and readjusted and firmware updated.

As intricate as these things are, and for as much abuse as they take during the normal course of an outdoor shoot, it's a wonder that they hold up as well as they do. I'm constantly amazed, while I'm clattering around on rocks or or logs and clamboring over streams, that the equipment still works when I pull the trigger.
