Taking A Break

I want to apologize, first to the moderators, and also to other members here ,who have had to endure the recent and public tete a tete between me and another member. I've been in your position many times as a moderator elsewhere and it's a brutal thing to witness.

Regardless of whether or not I felt justified in responding the way I did, it was done in areas not meant for that, and given that I felt that any direct personal conversation would prove pointless I chose poorly in making my posts public. I would love to promise that it won't happen again, but given that life holds no guarantees I will only promise that I will do my best not to do so again.

That said, there are times when you just need to walk away for a while and cool down, so that's what I'm going to do. I'm not angry, I'm not pissed, I'm just a little disappointed, in myself and in the other party involved. We should be able to act like adults and not dolts, and that didn't happen. I'll continue to post to my 365 thread, and will look to reply there as I am notified, but I'm temporarily recusing myself from other discussions for a while. My apologies to anyone who feels ignored - you can always email me.

Again, I'm sorry for the behavior. I'll do my best to catch up with everything, and other folks' 365 journeys in particular, down the road a piece.

You'll be missed, man. Hope you continue to follow other posts and offer tips here and there, as I have grown immensely from your advice on my own works. If not, I'll look forward to your return.

Peace on ya, man. Don't be TOO hard on yourself. ;)

Jake,

Sometimes you have to step away, I hear ya. Hate that this happened because you are a huge asset to this site. Glad your keeping up the 365 because I really enjoy your photos. And to me its water under the bridge as I usually just move on when I see the tennis matches that have been going on lately. To me its an opinion and everyone has one, so no harm done as far as I am concerned.

Jake, you always run across people like that. Give them time, and they will fade away. We all hope that you will not.

Jake, I understand... had to do a step back not too long ago but they went away... I will continue to enjoy your 365 and please... do not make the step back too long!! I have learned a lot from your postings and ideas..

I'd also like to say something. I already apologized to Jake in the thread in question. I don't believe I have to apologize to other users, since the discussion, or argument was between the two of us... I do want to say something else though; I'm pretty new to this forum and as I stated in my first post, it's also my first "take" at any forum. Also, I stated that I would be here to learn, which I have, since I've started shooting RAW and using a post production software. That said, I still believe that I was never incorrect or impolite towards Jake or anyone, and I could have felt ofended with some remarks made towards my ego and my posts. I haven't and never will because I understand the fundamental mind pattern in wich the ego feeds itself... I will continue expressing my points of view untill the site decides I am no longer an asset. I understand I am "the new kid in town" and my pov has a different aproach to photography than what some "old dogs" are accustomed to, but as I "said" before, I am not here to get pats on the back.

Jake,

It's a shame but this thread is no surprise I actually thought to myself that you would take this course of action when I read one of the recent exchanges. Hopefully you will feel it's OK to return in the near future.

Jake it is a shame that you have to take a break but I totally understand, one thing my job makes me good at is deciphering the bull crap out of things and ignoring them and taking in the bits that are worth it. I do not normally get into debate unless I have had a few too many to drink, but with you I can see that you are passionate about what you are passing on. But yes there is a place and time for debates and in some threads its just bull crap you do not need to see ;).

Flugelbinder you need to be aware that 'off topic' areas can be used for debate. But when people are asking for help then its best to post your own advice to how you consider it with out any jousting with another. As we owe it to the OP to post informative information and not crap about 'my way is better than your way' etc. In saying this I am not having a go at you I am just explaining things just in case you were not fully aware of them.

Glad you will continue your 365, I love to swing by it on more or less daily basis. I will miss your awesome knowledge and very specific explanations elsewhere in this forum. But I very much appreciate what you've given so far!

You are of course welcome to a cop of coffee, if you come by my area ;)

Sometimes, unfortunately, we all need to take a step back.

I look forward to your full-time return, Jake.

You are a valued member here and a fantastic resource for those of us that still have a lot to learn. Your ideas, photos, knowledge and creativity will be missed.

All the best!

NEVER COMPLAIN, NEVER EXPLAIN. Now we all need to get back to analyzing and improving our photography, and I do mean all of us. So fall back in cause we have got to Drive on.

Have a break, gather your thoughts and come back,i didn't follow most of what was going on i lost interest because ive seen it too many times, your more than a photographer your an artist with your camera and PP work, there are loads of great photographers on here but there are a few that stand out and you are one of that group.
You are here for your pleasure and relaxation not as a mentor unless you choose to be,pleased to hear you will continue your 365

This morning was the first time I saw this thread, and I was very dismayed reading through it. I am a big fan of Jake's photography (more specifically the artistry he is able to produce) and am saddened to hear he won't be involved in a lot of other discussions at this time. :(

Jake, I've learned a great deal from you. You've answered so many questions and have done so with incredible knowledge while explaining things in easy to understand concepts. I, for one, will miss your input. Yes, I know you will still be doing your 365 thread, but you've been involved in a lot of other threads that contain important discussions. It's been a lot of those comments that helped guide me to make informed decisions. :D And for all those countless times your input has benefited me, I thank you.

Just this morning I PM'd Jake discussing EXIF data. It so happens I've been enjoying the tree photos he's been posting lately. Well today I went out in search of a cannon (yes, an artillery cannon), but unfortunately the one I wanted to photograph was no longer there. For some reason, trees with light or white-colored bark were commanding my attention so when I headed to the river, there was a beautiful tree with white bark beckoning me. The sky was filled with lots of clouds, but the sun broke through just at this moment and settled on this tree. This may not be the best photo in the world, but apparently it was my calling to take this photo today.

Jake, this one's for you. Thank you for all you do.
