I'm new to the forum and fairly new to DSLR photography, but I'm going to take the plunge and put up a photo I took just last night so I can see if I'm on the right track and where I can improve.

I still have some bad habits from over-reliance on Auto modes, and was in such a rush to catch the good light I forgot to check my ISO and it was still at 800. I think it still turned out quite well. Anyway, here goes.

Single shot with some post-processing in Picasa to tweak tone/colour.

I like it - its kinda thoughtful. You didnt really need a shutter of 1/4000th for a static subject though - stopping down would have got more of your subject in focus while still maintaining some nice blurry bokeh. Love the colours !

I generally shoot in Aperture Priority, so the camera chose that shutter speed, and I'd left the ISO at 800 like I said.. I was kind of surprised when I reviewed it. There was a bit of a breeze on the ground, so it may have helped prevent any motion blur, I guess! Take your point about the focussing. I get carried away with the wide-open apertures on the 35mm. I only got it a couple of weeks ago, but it's given me some really nice shots.

I second Pierro's critic. I would have liked to see a little more of the leaf in focus. Otherwise, it's a very nice picture, good composition and great backlight emphasizes the subject. It shows what your intention was clearly.

Very nice, and like the others I would have stopped down a little to get the complete leaf in focus.
