Thanks Lawrence, Lumpy was the more photogenic of the birds on display - He certainly knew how to pose. And since he liked my wife's hair so much, I used her as bait which is why he always seems to be looking into the camera!
I think he was eyeing out the competition...

Re-edited an old shot.... A Handley-Page Victor, part of the UK's 1950-1960's nuclear deterrent.

It's been a long time since I posted any pics, so here are a few from a recent trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park... Anyone who lives in the area, this is a big zoo - Only 5 years old but a great collection of animals... And the UK's only Polar Bear.

This Lioness was lazily trying to catch her own tail.......

A Black & white Zebra.... In Black & White!

...And finally, Victor, the only Polar Bear in the UK. He's 14 years old, and has recently been retired from the European breeding program... As he has fathered most of Europe's Polar Bear population and they need to dilute the gene pool a bit more!

I'm still editing through the pics from our visit, so I'll post more as they get done!

We had a trip there planned a month or so ago to take motherinlaw for a day out,we arrived in good time but motherinlaw passed out and we had to call an ambulance. They took her to Doncaster and we spent nearly a fortnight travelling from grimsby every day to visit,we are hoping to go one day next week but not telling her.

Will i be able to manage with the 120-400 i dont really want to take two lenses.

Sorry to hear about your Mother in law Mike! I hope she is on the mend now!
Your 120-400mm should be fine, very few of my 180+ shots were less than 100 mm. The only areas you may have a bit of problem is the Wallaby enclosure and the Lemurs, because you get that close you can't focus with a long lens! All that being said, I only used my 55-300 mm all day..... Next time I'll get that 150-600mm.....

All in all, it's a really great park, and the animals have so much space make sure you allow either 2 visits, or at least 4 hours!

This is a Hotel in nearby Knaresbrough. It has been decorated with the Polka-dots for the recent Tour-de-France cycle race which passed by in July. Unfortunately, it is on a busy junction so setting up a good shot is difficult!

Thats a quirky a hotel and the traffic light cracks me up being mounted on the side of it. Or at least looks like its mounted to the side.

It is quite quirky Kevin! I haven't been inside but the ornaments etc I can see from outside are quite... "Bespoke" lol. The traffic lights are on their own pole, but tucked right up against the building as the pavement is narrow.

These pictures are of a little chapel in Knaresborough. The chapel was literally carved out of the rock to create a shrine in thanks for a large rock missing a local man's child when it fell. As you can imagine, it is tiny inside, but there is a small statue. The chapel itself is only big enough for two people at one time.

More from our walk around Knaresborough... Recently, a sculptor has created some carvings out of old tree trunks and work looks amazing. We only had time to visit 3, but I believe there around 5 scattered around the woods.

First, is the Kingfisher

Second, the dragon
_dsc2662.jpg

And finally, the Owl & mouse. This sculpture is very recent, as you can see from the second shot

We couldn't help noticing while walking the dogs, that even though it is still warm autumn is definitely just around the corner...
