I've had my D3100 for 2 weeks now. This is my third attempt at this type of photography but the first I have posted in this forum. Using my tripod and a remote shutter release cable, I took 130 shots with 30 second exposures. (I did take 200 photos but the clouds rolled in!) Just looking for some feedback and tips on improving in this area of photography.

So you stacked 130 shots into one picture?

How were you activating the shutter?

I used my shutter release cable and programmed it to take each photo with a 30 second exposure. Then I just left it while I relaxed inside! It took about 2 hours to complete.

Yes. I used a program called 'Startrails' to stack the images. I quickly realized that I couldn't just hold the shutter open on Bulb for 2 hours the other day because you'll just get a white burned image!
