My impression has absolutely nothing to do with your choice of forum name and everything to do with the words you choose to share on this forum. If I were to extend your courtroom analogy, "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law", and I've been presented with enough evidence that it would take a heck of a defense attorney to plant reasonable doubt. I have no need to resort to playground name calling, but I'll just tack it on as exhibit #513.

I must admit it hit the counter a bit harder than expected but drop testing is a semi humourous engineering term for o shit it dropped out my hand ..some of you need to get a life outside photography...
I need to buy two ..thats about $2000 after 7000 sales or I keep the 7000 they go down less than $150 each in the next 12 months .....cheap for 20,000 wedding photos. Now if the 7100 is not substantially better than the 7000 with the lens I use ...why buy ....hence test dont guess

When you go back to a store to test the new 7100, I would suggest that at the same time you take your 7000 and try a 17-55 or 24-70 on it and compare all possibilities. I'm not a gambler so I wouldn't dare to say "I'll bet you that", but my guess is that you will see that there could be more benefits for your work getting a better lens than getting a newer body with more MP. But you will have to try for yourself.

Very sensible comment Marcel but what use is a 70mm lens in a church to get a photo of the rings on the brides finger during the service ....No use at all..
I need a 18-200 or even 300 for the job . I also carry a 10-20 mm

If you need more than one lens make sure its got a body attached at all times !!!!

I understand what you say about glass quality which is why I want to know if its pixels or better zoom glass I need....Test dont guess ...

Just curious, how many shots do you have on the D7000's? Since you are using them for work and you are getting good results, why not just drive them into the ground before you replace? Perhaps just get one new body for personal use and for the "latest gadget" need and just keep running the D7000 to get the most out of them?

Exactly. I only stopped using my D70's about a year ago. My main one has 72K shots on it and was until last week my backup to the 7000 I bought a year ago. I gave my brother the backup which had 18K on it. I now have 2 x 7000s for work and will use them for years to come. My weekend toy is my 700 but occasionally the backup 7000 gets a run when I need extra reach.

Well I think about 16000 + on each in 50 weddings .goes up about 500 per week per camera ....sometimes we could do with cropping a bit more and you can always find a fool who will buy it without asking the shutter count ..it is for this reason I wanted to test the 7100 to see if its worth while . I think the zoom glass is now the limiting factor but we will test and see

I was a fan of the 18-200 for years and my wife still has hers. I still think its a great lens, however, if you drop a 24-70 or 70-200 2.8 on the camera the results are not comparable if you're looking at detail. I did this with the my d300s and only used the 18-200 when I didn't want weight after that. Whenever I wanted IQ or speed the 70-200 goes on. I've now gone FX and the 24-120 is my new walkabout and I would say that also beats the 18-200 by some way, but obviously has less range. I'll put it in perspective. The IQ on my 70-200 vrii with a 2 x teleconvertor is better than my 18-200 was at 200mm.

In my experience glass is more important than pixels, especially if you already have a lot on your 7000. Admittedly I can crop huge chunks off my D800 files and still have 15-20 megapixel landscapes :)

Yes,, do agree,,, I started with the 18-135,,, and then moved to the 18-200 when it first came out, and did like the flexibility, using primes when I wanted more sharpness, but did move on to the pro zooms as time/money allowed (besides my old film manual zooms). eventually, I wore out my
copy of the 18-200, but I did buy my wife one which she uses all the time.

However, I did come back to the 18-200 recently for my go everywhere 5100, and remembering just how convenient it is. Is the picture as sharp,, almost, and the newer sensors have some headroom for sharpening.

comes to degrees.. so for example,, I posted this shot showing an example from my 18-200, from a D300, and printed, it has plenty of detail. but, yes, the 70-200 would be hair sharper.

I would tread very VERY carefully with those type of comments!!!

Take a step back, look at your OP and the successive comments you made, then put on your "I'm not pistnbroke" hat and re-read it, and the only assumptions that can be made are quite clear.

On a lighter note, I need to ask you a few non-topic related questions, but will take that offline to PM :)

Those were your words not ours. And honestly, from where I sit, it is difficult to take anyone here seriously who has never uploaded any images. Do you walk or do you just talk?

Not entirely sure if that was actually directed at me or not?
And if it was - yes I have uploaded images on here, and yes those were my words, which I stand by - the wording I quoted was edgy IMO, but no where did I claim that I spoke/represented all that come here!!

Nope not for you but for the original OP, sorry, who seems to be somewhat of an ass.

Well as nikon was not letting me test I reverted to DXO.....so it seems that with a super zoom anything over 6 MP is wasted and for a prime over 10MP is wasted.
so it comes down to camera noise in that usable MP. Now on DXO spec the D7000 reaches its limit at 1100 iso and a D600/D800/D4 at almost 3000 iso....so we must wait and see if the D7100 goes up substantially ...Its this iso value that makes a D700 give a better picture than a D90 with the same lens.

wonderfull but I did not want to change lenses...I use the 18-105 at 50 mm as my standard and my same test chart at 10 ft

so with 17 days to go they dont have a standard working model on display???

Great.

With newly released models, Nikon does not allow spectators or potential buyers to use their SD cards since some or most are still the prototypes. After a year, then they usually allow people to use their SD cards or CF cards just like what they did during the recent photo exhibit. They allow us to use our cards with the D4, D800 and D600.

No camera manufacturer will allow someone off the street to use a preproduction camera before it is released, at least in the sense of walking out with a card full of pictures. There are obviously a number of photographers who do get these cameras for testing prior to release, but they also are not supposed to post any pictures from these preproduction units. This is true at every camera show for every prerelease unit, so I fail to see any logic in getting mad with the concept.
