If there is a thread explaining this then sorry i cant find it,I would like to add my name to my pictures not for copyright ect just because i think it looks better,i use an old copy of photo shop elements and if it involves layers ime stuck.Layers i just cant get my head around after many attempts it just will not click into place in my mind,so if there is an easy way i would appreciate some guidance.
Thanks

You mean like this example...This done in CS5 but I think any of the PS are capable of doing it...

This was done with the Horizontal Type Tool...Just select the colour you want then the tool and write away..

Ah am i misunderstanding this i thought the signature would be a saved item which could be applied to pictures as a stamp or something.

I have a Watermark saved as a PSD file on the desktop...I had to select a layer to do it...

This was written on the image..

I have a separate file with my signiture and add it to my images. Don't be afraid of layers, they are easy to deal with. On the other hand can just use the text tool and type it in each time. You can adjust the font and size to match the image. I prefer to keep my signiture small and unobtrusive in the image, and also reduce the opacity of that layer so it does not stand out. There is no point in "signing" an image if it distracts the viewer's attention. Here is an example, look in the lower left corner:

Glad you found something that works! As for the Text tool, it adds its own layer--at least in PSE 10... ;)
