Shipping issues resolved…(Was this where ……. drops the ball)

Re: This is where ADORAMA drops the ball..............

You're treading water Helen. HOW do I know it didn't ship on the same day...........

I placed order on 12/31 and according to the Adorama email notice, the package shipped on 1/2.

Now, if my math is right, that's not the same day.

Or possibly I shouldn't trust the Adorama notification email.

And again, let's blame UPS.

If I order something on NYE I wouldn't expect for it to ship out until the second.

This seems very...aggressive.

I just want to put in my 2 cents here.

I don't know Helen personally but I've belonged to other forums where she is a member and she's a straight shooter. Helen has always resolved issues, looked into matters, and made it her business to help customers.

She genuinely cares and will absolutely help you when possible. Please give her the benefit of the doubt, try to stay calm and you'll get answers.

I'm not sure, in your position, that I would want my email address and order number made freely available on the 'net, but as you won't email me......

Can I please also have your zip code as I'm not getting a match for that order number 12176164 to email address [email protected]

NB When you selected UPS shipping, were you aware of the UPS holiday schedule?

On these six days, there will be no UPS pickup or delivery service:
  • Jan. 1 – New Year's Day

  • May 27 – Memorial Day
  •
July 4 – Independence Day

  • Sept. 2 – Labor Day
  •
Nov. 28 – Thanksgiving Day

  • Dec. 25 – Christmas
Plus, on these two days, UPS will pick up and deliver air and international packages only (no UPS Ground service):
  • Nov. 29 – Day after Thanksgiving
  • Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve

Another tidbit.. I deal with UPS upwards of 50 times a year and I've seen MANY occasions where an item is marked as shipped by a retailer and I get email notification with a tracking number but for whatever reason, is not scanned into UPS's system right away.

The retailer has no control over that.

I have placed a few orders with Adorama. The last one I had this issue due to Hurricane Sandy. But it sent me a shipment notification nearly a week before it actually shipped. The good news was my item arrived the following week and I picked it up at UPS. The notification system may need a little tweaking because it's very frustrating waiting and making arrangements for someone to be home etc...I ended up changing it to hold at the UPS facility through UPS My Choice so I no longer had to fear missing a shipment. I hope your D800 makes its way to your door soon Ted. If there is no update change I would be calling Adorama first thing Monday morning and inquiring on your orders location. That is a sizable sale they won't want to lose so customer satisfaction is essential. I hope the correct the error and get your Camera to you that has to be excruciating waiting...surely dealing with photographers they have to understand the agony of it all right? Maybe they can offer a free item to help make it right?

Well, good. Then you wouldn't have a problem. I do.

My package is "out for delivery".

Shipping will have taken 3 business days.

So as the problem was that the package was not scanned at the hub in NJ - in fact, it was not scanned at all until FL, can the title of the thread be changed - to "This where UPS drops the ball"?

99% of the time I am so impressed with the whole distribution system now, We take almost for granite that all is going well.

My stress, is when an expensive package needs to be signed for, and I have to stay home all waiting waiting,, such pain.

Let it go Helen.

Concentrate on fixing the problem with UPS rather than just attaching blame.

You are UPS' customer. You should expect more from their process if it is lacking.

It's your responsibility to improve the system for your customers' benefit.

That is the proper customer service response; not pointing fingers at the "other" guy.

Ted, I understand how you can be feeling about this. But, this is not the right place to settle your score. If you want to officially complain to the store or UPS, please do so in private with them.

I feel this thread is getting nowhere and if it continues I will lock it.

Thanks.

I'm glad to see you taking sides. First you crank it up by giving Helen's response a like, and then you tell me it's my problem. For you, I would believe this is typical. You should have locked it yesterday.

I'm trying not to take sides, but since you will have the camera this afternoon, I hope it will make you forget about it.

I think your timing didn't help with the holidays and all. Some of these UPS workers go on cruise during this period and their speed is greatly reduced.

All the best with the D800 (of which I'm very envious :) )

Re: This is where ADORAMA drops the ball..............

As was pointed out, there was no pickup or delivery of packages with Ground Delivery on Dec 31 or Jan 1, 2013. A label was created for the package on Jan 2nd, meaning it would most likely ship that day. Ground is 1 to 5 business days. If you are getting your package today, the 7th, Adorama and UPS did their job. I had a similar problem with a package before Christmas. It came down to UPS not updating their system or someone not scanning the package at a certain point. But, it came within the time frame set. Hope you enjoy your new camera Ted. I know it sucks waiting for something you are eager to get and for something that is expensive!

Re: This is where ADORAMA drops the ball..............

First off, I would like to thank Helen for going above and beyond the typical customer service. Adorama clearly cares about their customers and Helen has handled this situation admirably. Something ordered on New Years Eve would naturally be expected to take a few additional days to arrive, that's natural. And like I mentioned very early in this thread, UPS is notorious for failing to scan in pick-ups. I do a great deal of business with UPS and like I mentioned, this is a common occurrence.

I also agree with Marcel that the title of this thread is very misleading since Adorama did not "drop the ball" and in fact Adorama has shown itself to be a top-notch photographic supply company with excellent customer service and they do not deserve to have their reputation sullied due to factors outside their control.

Re: This is where UPS drops the ball…(Was Adorama)

Whether it be your national postal service or a courier service, you as the receiver (or the sender) are reliant on their services being as advertised and as promised.

I personally try and go for delivery (shipping) options which specifically avoid holidays and weekends in between the order and scheduled delivery date. Why? Because I for one hate to think what my parcel is being used for in a depot over say a weekend... door stop, someone's foot stool, step ladder etc!!
I have better piece of mind knowing that my parcel is 'in flow' and not just sat around collecting dust for a couple of days.

Of course, there will be times when you can't avoid such things, but that's when you weigh up a faster delivery (more cost), or hoping for the best :)

Okay, the title has been changed to better reflect the true nature of this thread. It's a good lesson on buying expensive purchases on-line and some of the potential issues that may crop up. And it also shows the professionalism of Adorama and how they live up to their goal of excellent customer service.
