Serial Number

I'm sorry but having some little list of serial numbers you typed up on your iPad isn't going to stop the Customs Agent that has decided they want to "liberate" your camera. At best it would help you fill out the claim form they'll give you (and subsequently lose the minute you're out of visual range).
Don't be sorry... it worked with me...
But isn't helping Marc at this moment with his missing serial number.

This sounds like a very reputable company. I am anxious to hear what they do for Marc. I know that this is likely some kind of screw up, but I would no more buy a camera without a serial number than a pistol. When it comes time to resell, if I were in the market I would not buy this one. It is not to say it is stolen, but it would make me uncomfortable to invest in something that has no trace-ability.

Hi Everyone.

Many thanks to everyone for all the replies.

To be honest.... it's not the start to the D750 I wanted.

I contacted Nikon yesterday via live chat. The chap there confirmed all D750's should have the sticker with the serial number on them on the bottom of the camera. He also confirmed no Nikon camera would leave the factory without this on. He was very interested to find out where it came from, and also guessed it was a grey import. He was totally confused how this could happen - the only thing he could say was maybe the grey importer took the sticker off.... but he said they dont normally do this - they just take the warranty card out the box normally.

So then I contacted HDEW... they were very shocked.... they couldnt understand it and requested the camera back so they could investigate it. They offered a full refund or a straight exchange. They assured me they only sell geniune products and seemed concerned about this incident.

So I cant fault their handling of this.

I will be honest, it's made me nervous.... I dont want a camera without the serial number (in case I ever want to sell it), and maybe it's my over active mind... but i started stressing that it was a counterfiet.

However, I've opted for an exchange from HDEW.... hope i've done the right thing.

I'll let you all know how this pans out

Once again thanks for the input

Perfect, Marc.
The only thing you had to do, contacting HDEW. They responded very good.
Nikon responded as you could expect, they only give service with original imported ones.
I hope you will receive your D750 soon.

Nikon protects their customers. Grey import are Nikons too so to terms of sales it matters less but if they provide equal service to those grey imports, there won't be a store left in the West.

In the uk they do offer equal service but just not warranty work,i always thought they would only do recall work on gray gear but from another forum i find that they will do paid work as well.ime with you about protecting your local source i just dont like miss-leading info,as you say a Nikon is a Nikon no matter how it got to the customer.

That's the way it's supposed to work, a good retailer stands behind what they sell. I've opened more than a few packages in my day that were not as expected, wanting to seek to place blame instead of simply calling up and saying, "Something's not quite right here". Truth is most things like this are just an aberration and there's no intent involved. Glad things worked out for you.
