Self taught beginner wanting to learn.

I want an all around critique of this image please. I am trying to learn everythingthat I can about photography. I believe that this image was shot on my nikkor zoom 35-105mm 3.5-4.5 f 22-3.5 but both of my lenses are old analog slr lenses so my camera doesnt record any exif data about the lens. Here is the exif data for the image though.

If you were trying to get the whole tree in focus, you need to stop down (higher F number) on aperture. Looks like like you took this shot wide open. (lowest F number)

There are a couple things that I think could have been done better but overall I like the shot and what you're doing with it.

I too think a little deeper depth of field would improve the shot. I don't necessarily think absolutely everything in the shot needs to be in pin-point focus, but I would have liked to see the whole of the foreground in focus. There's some pretty significant blowout in the highlights and, what appears to me to be, chromatic aberration causing some a purple-ish hue near the top; I'd have to open the shot in Photoshop to be sure about that last bit. If this were my shot, I'd probably crop the image on both the left and right edges to concentrate focus on the subject. I also think this shot would be a excellent candidate for converting to black and white.

And I agree with the previous posters that stopping the lens down some to increase the depth of field would improve the shot.

That's the thing. Without knowing what the OP was trying to achieve, it's hard to give the right advice.
