Seagate 3TB external drives on sale @ Amazon

I monitor Amazon for a couple of things and one of them is the 3 TB external drives. Today Amazon marked it down to $99, the best price it's been in over 6 months so I jumped on a couple more. Typically Amazon will only run sales like this for a day and sometimes only half a day so if you were thinking of picking up some storage space, $33 per TB is a pretty darn good deal.

I have one of those attached to my file server. Works like a champ. I have 1.2 TB left free on the drive. Will be needing more space soon. :)

Would that attach work with my Mac time capsule anyone know? I'm soooo not computer savvy but after switching to raw my computer is getting slow.. I need to store my pics somewhere else

Unbelievable deal, wow. Although I prefer G-Tech and use Raid 1 for my archival material (or Raid 0 for less important stuff). I would never risk my images or files to a drive like this as all drives have a finite lifespan and when they fail, that's pretty much it (unless you want to pay $1k for data recovery). Granted, Seagate is a very good company with good drives so I suppose if I did want to just backup a lot of stuff that wasn't really essential, and I had a few years to transfer it (this is only USB 3.0 so figure how long it would take to transfer 3 GB worth of stuff), this would be it.

Aside from ripping the drive out the enclosure and attaching it direct to your SATA port, or hooking it up via eg. FireWire, USB 3.0 is a pretty good option I'd say. And certainly not years to transfer it :)

Excuse me, but, *only* USB 3.0?? Hitting almost 160 MB/s in real life is nothing to sneeze at. For that matter transferring 3GB over is USB, even USB 2.0, is a trifle; I transfer ten times that amount of data, using USB 2.0, routinely. Heck my thumb drives transfer close to 3GB's of data just for my weekly class assignments (also USB 2.0). I would weep Tears of Pure and Unmitigated Joy if my thumb drives could hit 150 MB/s!
