Normally I just see a flash and do not get a chance to practice.

I am lucky to get them in focus when they are still sitting on a branch, let alone when they are flying

The luck is to be in the right place at the right time, obviously your skill took over at that point.

I watched one take off from a tree when I was walking down to the front gate to get the wheely bin this afternoon. Even if I had the camera, the bird was too quick.
