Been sitting here in the dark taking photos of night Heron and salt water crocodiles catching and eating fish. Am now trying my hand at star trails is a good morning for it and the moon has set. Just have to be careful as the water is very high and there are some very big salties in it.
Well this morning I got up at 02:30am and decided to go to Fogg Dam, I had a few ideas of what I wanted and one turned out. I was alone and had to be watchful of Salt water crocodiles. I saw 4.
Ok this first photo is a bad one but gives you an idea of where I went.
I did manage this shot of the milky way. Again I sat in the car while it took the photo. This is a single exposure at 30sec, SB-910 was used to light the foreground (probably too much), ISO was 1000 and I used my 16-35mm at f/4
Here I was trying 2 different things, 1 I wanted to get some star trails happening and 2. I wanted to get some lightning.
The reason why I have not straightened the horizon is because it will cut off the lightning. Again I was mindful of the water behind me and the crocodiles.
I used my car as a hide and for most part it worked quite well, while there was little light I used the 70-200 at f/2.8 but once I started getting more light I switched to my trusty old 80-400 at f/7.1
With these next lot of photos I was basically laying on the ground and the camera was at ground level. (Click for larger if you like - PS I think its worth it).
