Well after having a car accident and not being able to take a photo for awhile here are my first attempts at macro again.

A small jumping spider on my aloe vera plant.

Your shots are amazing Scott! Glad you are healing up enough to get back in to picture taking mode.

I've got a question for you, as I'm new to macro photog and just having bought the Tokina 100mm macro lens. Do you try and get as close as possible to your subject with your lens, or do you take the shots from slightly further back and then crop in on them in post?

I nearly always try and get as close as possible with the lens, cropping is last resort. The last two photos have had no cropping at all.

Thank you! Good to know, that's how I have been shooting but didn't know if that was the "proper" way to go about macro'ing. :) I also see you shoot primarily at f/16 which looks to give you a pretty good depth of field, looks like that's one place where I need to bump my settings. I had been shooting around f/8 and the DOF is so narrow it's hard to get enough of the subject in focus at any kind of an angle.
