SB700 Contacts not lining up

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and was able to repair it themselves. The flash is just out of warranty and the shop wants 150 to look at it.

Basically I stick the flash SB700 on the hotshoe on ttl mode and it only fires on low power. I figured out quickly it was not the settings or the camera.
With a bit of twisting the flash on the hotshoe, not much play, only a few millimeters if that, I got it to work.

So my question is - Is there any way to re-allign the contacts on the SB700 without sending it back to Nikon ?

Thanks

Ciarán

Looking at my Sb-800. There is no way the pins could ever go out of alignment, at least not on this flash. The pins travel through a metal plate which connects to the hot-shoe of the camera. The pins are spring loaded. You can push on them and they should return. Are your free to move? Are they clean?

Make sure the hot shoe and flash pins are clean, not clogged. Make sure you are inserting the flash foot fully deep into the shoe.

When the flash is mounted on the hot-shoe, make sure the flash is pointing AWAY from your face.

Best advice on using my flash I ever got.

Thanks for the replies.

After reading so threads here, the first thing I did was clean the contacts with an eraser and then used an air blower to remove and dust or particles left over.
I'm only assuming that they are not properly lining up because I can put a bit of pressure on one side of the flash and it will work fine. All the springs seem to be ok too.

I'm hoping its something simple. Was considering putting a little wedge between the hotshoe and the flash to give a better fit.
