Savings tip for online storage

I just wanted to pass along a tip that I "fell" into with an online storage vendor (JustCloud). I signed up for a free account some time ago but never did anything with it. JustCloud was pretty aggressive at trying to get me to sign up and use their service. A few days went by and they offered 35% off any of their plans. Another few days and it was 50% off and finally today they offered 70% off. So I went ahead and signed up for 1 year of unlimited storage for just under $36.00. Not a bad deal.

With that being said, ALWAYS vet your online storage choices thoroughly. JustCloud has more than their fair share of bad reviews. So far there isn't anything that bothers me too much but I can tell that their service isn't for everyone. All these services have minute differences in how they work so make sure the one you choose will work for you and your setup.

I figured for $36 bucks it's worth a shot for a year. I do believe there is a 30day money back guarantee as well.

Of the 811GB I've designated to upload it's been about 12 hours uploading and only 2% done. The good thing is (from my 23MB up and 3MB down internet connection) I'm not seeing any slow downs in my normal day to day internet routines. It looks like the software does a good job of throttling the upload to minimize the impact on the user. JustCloud interface is clean looking. They're just in your face so much with reminders, congratulations, new services, etc. I don't mind it but it could be bothersome to some users.

It took 12 days for my initial sync of 180k files / 600 MB with Backblaze. Things went much faster after I adjusted the limits.

I had just cloud for two years up to last week. During that time the software was a bit random as to whether it performed a daily backup but I lived with that. Almost monthly it would come up with a message saying out of space on my unlimited account. I would email them and service would resume.

Last week I noticed no backups had happened for two weeks so I manually invoked one but nothing happened. I contacted them and they said my last upload had breached their daily fair use policy. Perhaps if they actually backed up daily that wouldn't happen. As this was a week after my annual renewal I saw red and I'm no longer with them.

That's good to know Geoffc thanks. What was your total usage at the time?

I think I'm seeing what you were getting a taste of Geoffc with JustCloud. My backup FINALLY completed today (after starting it on February 13th). I noticed that some prompts for certain upgrades were flashing. I knew JustCloud was about the nickeling and diming for certain upgrades. When I purchased I carefully made sure that I wouldn't need the upgrades and that I could just live with the current plan. I was prompted for two upgrades that I DID NEED, Video backup and 1GB file limitation backup. So I would have to upgrade to have those two features added. I wasn't too keen on that so I called to cancel. They gave me the same spiel that most retention phone reps try but overall they relented fairly quickly. And I was able to get most of my $37 back. I probably should have gotten all of it but I wasn't going to argue.

I'm now checking on BackBlaze and CrashPlan, but I think I'll try BackBlaze.
