A purplish weed growing in the waterless riverbed, and I don't know what the flower is growing on the tree. Took these with my D60 and 18-55 kit lens.

that looks like it Marilynne, the flower is about 5-6 inch diameter??, I saw another tree with these flowers beside where I live, I will take a better photo for you to see. Thanks.

Also I have seen purple grass, going to get you a pic of that.

looks like the fountain grass Marilynne, grows behind one of the malls beside us. Now only if i could find that kentucky blue grass :D

Fantastic stuff Roy the hummingbird is sublime even though he is centered...you got away with breaking the rules I think!

I hear you I just wish I had a long lens to do some bird stuff because I have some really cool birds here on the farm.

I tried to shoot a moccasin swimming across a pond the other day with a 45mm film camera...results sucked...awhile later I snuck up on one from behind and I could have nailed him but I was out of film...wild snake photography must be similar to bird photography because they are fast and flighty when they see you seeing them.

I have been in the states now 13 years, never seen a live snake, a few dead ones, I am always on the look out for them, one day

I saw two today...both garter types one light tan with brown stripes about two feet long the other light green about three feet long. I live in a rural area it has been wet and cold until very recently they are sunning now and getting ready to breed and today it was very warm and their populations are great this year (plus we haven't mowed the pasture yet). If there is one sort of unique cool subject that I could do it would be the snakes because this year there are millions around here but man they are quick. Maybe I will try breeding season is upon us. The best ones would be the big fat moccasins sitting on a tree but those snakes are hot you'd need a long focal length. Some of them are beautifully colored and patterned. Out there in Cali you guys have rattlers from what I understand...we have them here too but one doesn't see them very often unless you know where to look.

The moccasin is a relative of the copperhead and the only snake to have bands on it's belly...pit vipers...mean and nasty when backed into a corner or stepped on but otherwise real flighty.

I just realized the moon shot in #111 and a few others I took, I wasn't to happy with them, seemed to be a little fuzzy, I had them on the tripod and forgot to switch the VR off AGAIN, Duh.
