Great pictures Pat. I held the Tamronzooka this morning at a client's house. He had it on a 7100. Before I held it the size made me think it was a lot heavier than it really was. I think it's even less heavy than the Nikon 70-200 2.8. It seems like a very nice lens to have.

Thanks Marcel... I am running mine on the 7100 (so far w/o the battery grip). It is heavy but not unwieldy, though you need to maintain adequate shutter speed. So far all of mine have been handheld yet I would like to try it with a monopod (which I have). I do try and brace myself if I can (tree, truck, fence). I find I am much "less" steady shooting upwards, moon, objects flying (birds/planes) due to weight balance.

Regarding actually weights, listed for Nikon is 3.39# (1.54kg) and 4.3#(1.95kg) for the Tamron. So, the Tamron is almost a pound heavier but I find the balance to be quite good.

The other day at the refuge, I saw something I had not seen before in the wild, EVER..

A Bobcat! (actually 2 as a smaller (female?) appeared briefly)

I was actually exiting the refuge in my truck when I spotted the cat in my left side mirror... thinking it was just a stray cat, I almost drove away. Then backed up to try and photo it anyway. It was right on the brush line down from the dirt road I was on and as I backed up past him, I realized it was not a stray. He was leery of me but not spooked, as I got close enough to try and take a picture he began moving along the brush line. I kept moving with him.. then saw the 2nd cat. She followed him a ways but kept darting into the brush until he turned and followed her off.

Not the greatest but 1st ever for me of a bobcat in the wild....

WOW!
That is wonderful and just another case of great subject matter over limited technical performance.
No excuses are necessary. I'd much rather catch something exceptional and rare in a blur than another sharp flower.
Good for you Pat!!!

PS.... Bill wants to know if you got his phone number.

I was pleased with the capture of "rare" and it was exciting... I did not have a lot of time to play and pose them!! :) Thank you...

No, but Bill thought he was pretty hot.

Also, I wasn't implying that your captures weren't attractive. I was only addressing your great subject. :)
