The other day, we had a family cookout at my place... It was great because it was something we had not been able to do for years!
I fired up the smoker and we prepared Cornish hens for the meal. In addition, I put in a pork loin roast, chicken wings for snacks and
enough chicken parts for 3 meals (thigh, breast legs). These were all to be dfrozen.

cleaning up the chicken....

adding the Cornish Hens to the pile...

Chicken parts seasoned ready to go on...

Pork roast, seasoned and ready for the smoker....

The 1st of the chicken to come out... found out later it was
delicious (my son sampled the drumsticks) !

The hens were excellent, did them in a peach glaze and they were
so tasty and moist.. The kids liked them a lot..

This caboose is right off the parkway for me coming home. I took the photo intending it to be in color,
then in processing thought it might render well in B&W... (I like it!)

Ok,

while at the refuge... I spotted this gator and shot these 2 photos of him, he was out a little distance. It was not until processing in LR that I noticed the "fixture" attached to him...

It appears to be bolted through the spikes of his back??? Is some kind of a Tagging system??
Or something else???

That's odd Pat. Maybe you can find some one that knows what that is, like a park ranger.

Hahaha... was hoping that you or Jeff might recognize it! There is a visitor center nearby in SC, maybe I can take the pictures in there and see if anyone knows.

Thanks Marilynne...

Pat, I hope some one at the center knows. I've done umpteen searches for tagging, tracking, bolts on back/neck, etc... with no results. I did find out that the cracks in asphalt are called alligator cracks so I guess I did learn something.

Ok, here is the gator scoop...

I went to the Refuge visitor center... the lady behind the desk had no idea, so called over her associate. He knew right away, it is a nuisance tag! They currently have 2 in the refuge.. The tag has an engraved metal plate for ID and color coded for male/female. the tags are 2 fold..

Allows them to keep an eye on one's suspected to be a nuisance (coming to close to people) and also the trauma effect tends to make them wanting to avoid contact with humans.

He then went and got the federal wildlife officer and he asked to have the photos with date, time and location withing the refuge. I will email them all the details this afternoon.
