I really enjoy your industrial photography. One of the first big jobs I got as a professional photographer MANY years ago was shooting Plumbing parts like man hole covers and water meter boxes. the guy just wanted a picture of the man hole cover and drug it out on the factory floor and told me to shoot it. I told him no but if they would load it in my truck I would take it to my studio and shoot it properly. He thought I was crazy. I did shoot it and he was so excited that I got the contract to re-shoot every product he made. They then had their catalog reprinted with all the new photos. I was one happy camper

Thanks for the kind words Don. I had taken some shots early on and then submitted to management for "permission" to use them. They gave me permission and the caveat is, if they need any that I take them!! They had hired out two prior jobs and commented that mine were better than the guys they paid... Made me feel good too!

Again, appreciate the kind words and understanding!

Day 92 - April 2nd, 2013

Not a great photo day... swamped at work, customer in, no breaks as we sampled and validated a new medical part.. I never made it to the pond... :(

On the way in... managed another moon shot... Tried to grab several part shots between "stuff" and 3 failed, this was the only one that came out.. (to the right)

I mentioned the new medical part... a toughie, metal inserts and threads in the plastic! Did I say SMALL, That is 2 on a dime. The right photo is one of 3 new gages for measuring/testing the new point.

These are the the other 2, the right is actually a destructive test.

Day 93 - April 3rd, 2013

Not a great work day (3 projects failed) but at least a good photo day (IMO). I got a nice break and went down to the pond...
Also, the product (industrial photo's) came out better today. (amazing what light and patience can do)

1st, the industrial.... On the left, a mold hits the maintenance table...
On the right, a product sample.

2 more sets of product samples.....

I agree with Don on the factory shots. It's nice to see things that other people work with and experience what goes into making things. Reminds me of the show on how things are made (forgot the name)

Thanks Rick... It is something I have always has had an interest in as I work in the field of producing the products.. Not as pretty as sunsets and flowers and waterfalls but interesting in its own way. Glad that some enjoy them (though I trty to mix up with the more scenic things)

Again, I like the product shots. White seamless background. How are you lighting them?

Thanks Don!

In most cases, they were shot on my desk with a white letter size sheet and just the overhead light... (I often use my coffee cup to prop up the paper in the back) I had issues yesterday where the light was marginal and they were not sharp.

Today, I went over to the inspection counter with a 4 ft flourescent under the shelves. Used my white paper and the light was so much more even and no blur (hand held). I will be shooting future ones over on that table (right outside my door in the lab. I may take a pic tommorrow of that setup!! ::what::

I thought that looked different / better today. It is amazing how creative a person can be when they take the time to think. Good job.

Yes, My office is more like a closet!! Lighting is poor at best.. I can get a decent shot with the 1.8's but I have to watch focus, dof. The new spot will work so much better...

Thanks again Don!

Yesterdays shots were just not working in the office so I moved out to the lab.
Nice counter with a nice white light for inspection...
A shot of teh setup and the resultant photo... (it would have been better but my ISO was off..)
