Well, firstly, when I walked up to it, it wasn't a device, it was a pvc tube. I did not see the wires, and the label you see was face down.
Secondly, it's technically on my property, not the railroads property. There's a ton of junk on this line. From pairs of boots, mustard packets, coke cans, underwear, hats, barrels, steel beams, railroad ties, pipes, canisters, clothes pins, railroad spikes, water valves, etc... If I need something strangely specific, I go out there before I go to the store. It's usually out there. I'm waiting for one of those new tractors I see on the trains all the time to fall off.
Thirdly, I know it's not a bomb, because that type of paranoia has not made it out here in the middle of nowhere yet. If I raised the camera angle slightly, you'd see about 80 acres of nothing. Not a big priority on anybody's hit-list. Had I seen that tube in the city next to a track, I would've had the bomb squad out there in short order.
If it was a bomb, I'd be dead, and you'd never know about it.
