Right or Left? Bad Eye vs Good Eye!

Hello Everyone,

On the phone this morning, a university researcher in a neurology lab
was revealing some very interesting things about the mammalian brain,
his studies, and his plans for the future.

"… the fact that there are left and right handers was of crucial importance
in my research. This helped very much to understand the respective
differences human activities and the relation to being a right of left
dominant brain…"

Later today it stroked me: I shoot with the left eye and my younger son too.
But my older son with the right! Really? is it possible to consider that there
could be a good or even a bad eye?

Personally, I see practical reasons to shoot with the left eye other than not
having the choice. I am sure that right eye shooters have found some ad-
vantages, other than not having the choice, as well!

So, what are you, right or left eye shooter?

Did you discover certain aspect of interest in the way you eye-ball your
viewfinder?

Annoyances, or benefits?

Do you see any plus in the mastery of the technique or artistry of the trade?

Have a good time!

I'm legally blind in my left eye, so the decision was made for me :). When I post a questionable shot, I used my left :)

I have to shoot left eye, since my glasses don't completely compensate for my stigmatism in my right eye. Though I am right eye dominant, I don't have any real complaints about using my left eye. :) I admit I found I could shoot a rifle left or right handed, so it wasn't too strange to have to use my left eye.
But fishing, I have to use left hand retrieve though I'm right handed. Go figure huh? Lol :)

Right handed, left eye. And I've always been that way. When I picked up my first camera I did it this way as it just felt right.

This comes up in pistol shooting and everything I've read on the topic indicates eye dominance tends to follow "handedness" -- but only by the slimmest of margins. Something like 60% vs 40% with cross-dominance being the less common of the two.

Right handed, Right eye dominate. Have tried things on the left side but they just dont seem natural. But I always thought it was funny that I carry my camera bag, brief case and such with my left hand.

Right handed, left eye. Both eyes are good, left might be a tiny bit better, but shooting with my right eye feels very unnatural.

I use my left hand almost as much as my right hand.

@ Horoscope Fish - I shoot pistol left eye and rifle (3d holographic scope) right eye. Go figure LOL

FWIW

Cheers

Left eye. Had to stop using back button focusing on the D600 since my nose was in the way. :-( haha. On my old camera, the button was further to the right. Oh well, works just as good! Left handed = Right minded. :)

Left handed, right handed pistol/rifle shooter, left eye camera shooter. Was formerly right eye camera shooter until lens implant eye surgery eight years ago put 20/20 in both eyes, go figure. Hint - easier to go from viewfinder to top LCD readout as a left eye camera shooter, not an issue in the film days.

I shoot both eyes open. Small birds are too fast to track even through the bigger dSLR viewfinders. Depending on which way the bird is moving....I will use either the left or right eye.

The haibit has been carried into my landscape and flower shooting too.

Also in street photography it helps to not get into a tunnel vision mode. Which in turn makes you more aware of who and what is around you.

But I am right hand right eye.
