Reverse ring for macro photography..

Hi,

I was wondering does anybody use the reverse ring for macro photography on their D5100? is it safe to use ? does it damage the lens since the inner side is now exposed..

Thanks in advance.

I've used a reverse ring on my D3100 and it doesn't cause any damage. But you'll need to be careful not to bang the end of the lens or lens mount. I didn't use it much myself but others here have and it can work pretty well. :)

I have used it but found I get better shots with my 90mm macro and the Raynox. But yes you just have to be careful.

Have you researched what you have to do with the camera and the lens when using one of those reverse macro rings?

Yes I have already researched. Certain things might not be easy but I guess looking at the price of the ring and especially if you get a chance to try out macro before seriously considering to buy the macro lenses.. I guess its worth it :).

Once you try I think you will be hooked :)

Scott, I saw the pics on your flickr and they are amazing.. so did you shoot all the macros using the 90mm ? did you post processes or they are right from the camera?
All shot with 90mm and mostly with Raynox DCR-250. Most are PP'd to some extent or other but majorly dust and oil spots removed etc and shadows highlighted.

My reverse lens adapter arrived today! It was a bit of a squeeze getting it on my body due to my lens being a 77mm filter size, but it fit, JUST!!!

I'll tell you one thing, it's bloody fiddley! With the lens I've got on (sigma 17-50mm) the focal range goes from really close (about 2cm) to really really really close! :p

A fiver well spent I think :)
