I read up on that^^Nice lens...Ok so now that ive been digging some more I need help..lol So I know in my heart upgrading to full frame is far away..(too much $) So I wanna pull the trigger on Sigma's 18-35mm or 50mm-150mm..........These are the sharpest lens going right now for the D7100....17mp on either one...I know that both are made for APS-C Bodies...But I don't care at this point...Nothing but great reviews.. I need something wider but want the longer focal for portraits.... So if you were me,which one?

Better compression and reach ...Not to mentioned sharper then Nikkor and Tamrons 70mm-200mm 2.8

Disregarding the quality aspect of the lens, the focal length is very important for portraits..
By portraits am assuming you looking to do studio shots?
35mm, 50mm, 85mm are those that world be used most.. The 85mm would be more friendly on a fx camera as on a crop sensor you would have to stand some distance away from your subject..
If you looking at only portraits, you may want to think about those primes.. Better quality compared to variable focal length lenses

Ok I realize Primes are normally sharper..But not in this case..I LOVE my 85mm 1.8g..and use for portraits...(127mm) But I want more versatility and having more reach and more compression..The Sigma 50mm-150mm will give me that..(75mm-225mm) At the same time I believe the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 would be great to for wider shots of anything.. Like I said, these Sigmas are the sharpest lens going right now..17mp versus my 85mm's 15mp.. Thanks for your input..Was hoping someone on here owned the lens in question..

It would be the 18-35 for me, you can use the 50 and 85 for portraits (75 and 127 view on Dx).

I really want someone here to buy this lens and tell us how it performs!!

I think Id rather have a 70mm-200mm..lol Really considering the tamron...Or a Nikon 24mm-70mm 2.8 for the standard range..

70-200mm is a good replacement for 105mm. But next time around, I really think you should spend some time, to learn how to over come the problems first, even if it really was a problem.

70-200mm f4 won't be a bad choice for today's digital camera that can shot ISO6400 with ease.

I'll look forward to your review! If it is not tack sharp, get the dock. The dock allows you to customize the lens firmware to optimize the focusing on your specific body. With a zoom, I believe you will be able to customize 4 focal lengths to 4 distances. This is essentially fine tuning on steroids.

If the Sigma Fx 24-70 f2 does not materialize next year, I may just buy a Dx body to take advantage of this lens and double the versatility of my Fx lens collection.

Am I crazy for reconsidering giving the 105mm micro another shot..Looking back at some portrait type shots..Ive realized they were quite sharp..Was saving for a 70-200mm or a updated 135mm,but am starting to second guess getting rid of this lens,,Thoughts?

I would take the 135 (nikon 1.8g) out of the equation for now. It could be out next month or never, patents don't mean they will build it; sometimes they are just filed to cover a design. The problem is, the 105 and 70-200('s) are all great lenses; you have to decide based on your needs and shooting style, the stats and charts say buy them all :).

As far as portraits, I use the 70-200 exclusively. The flexibility in the moment is very important, more so than the ultimate razor sharpness of a prime (the 70-200 is dam close anyway!).
