Heard the replacement for the D7000 is coming out this week. What can they do to improve it?

Make it a D4 at consumer prices.

Spend some time going through this forum category and you'll see plenty of things, from complaints (consistent back focus, oil/dust spots, aggressive shutter) to wish-it-hads (larger sensor, 7 frame exposure bracketing) to adaptations of new technology (24MP sensor). You'll likely see some, and not others. It'll be a cool tool regardless.

There's always room for improvement and there will always be people who won't be satisfied with those improvements. It's a vicious cycle.
