Reflector, what size would be best?

Am new here, am currently in photography school at the NYIP, and I need to get a reflector for one of the photo projects, am not sure what size to get, was thinking of these, but I don't know if they are good as starters or I should go with a more high end one?? Amazon.com: NEEWER 32-Inch 80CM Portable 5 in 1 Translucent, Silver, Gold, White, and Black Collapsible Round Multi Disc Light Reflector for Studio or any Photography Situation: Camera & Photo I do mainly landscape, nature photography and wildlife sometimes as well, and am venturing into other types of photography as my school is teaching me all kinds of photography. I am kind of confused about the size of the reflectors and what kind I need to buy etc. and also about the light stands that hold them, should I even go there or just get a smaller hand held one? to start out with. working my way up to be a professional, so not sure if I should even go with high end equipment at first or not?

Hi there,

I use 4 of these reflectors: three are quite large (105 cm ø) and a smaller one (of
+/- 35 cm ø). Most practical tools!
Of the large one I use primarily their diffusor for portraits outdoors and the small
one mainly in studio to add accents or warmth to product shots.

Brilliant tools! One thing though, stay away from products that are lower end… the
materials do not last very long and are often not washable! What could have been
a clever investment turns into garbage too quickly!

The ones I got are from different brands… the quality of the ProLight Equipment is
the level to look for. The maker is pretty much irrelevant! The quality is.

Have a good time!

I bought my reflectors and diffusers from here: Excellent quality and great prices.

thank you! What size do you suggest? Are there any good reflectors from Amazon.com? making a big order of stuff and would prefer to get it from there if possible, if not that is okay.

What sizes you need are completely up to you. I personally use the 5-in1 Blazzeo 110 cm model. (about 43") I can't comment on anything from Amazon as I'm not able to order from there (they don't ship to Canada for some reason). I've had excellent service from LinkedDelight for many years.

Yes, ProLight Equipment is a brand.

Again, the maker is pretty much irrelevant! The quality is.

As I said, their all different makes! So ProLight Equipment is just a reference point
for the quality to look for.

The choice is all yours as long as the money is still in your pocket! Take your time.

Have a good day!

I have 2 reflectors, 1 is larger like Kodiak has... 41" (104 cm) and a smaller one that I think is 22" (55 cm)

Smaller is great for lighter smaller objects... Very handy to have if you shoot other than people. The 41 is really my main one.

The brand creative light is pretty good. I love the handles they have. Sign up at bhphotovideo for the edu discount. I think that's how I picked up my reflectors.
