Real Estate Interior Settings Newbie Question

You can reduce the contrast by taking the photo when the outside ambient light is equal to the inside light... Sunset or around there depending on the direction the window is pointing. You should also try using multi point exposure an then adjusting the highlights down and low lights up in Photoshop. I am not familiar with the capability of your camera but my D800 would get both inside and outside perfectly... But it has a full sized sensor. Good luck, you are on your way. JD

Since you're using a tripod, you could make multiple exposures and combine them using an HDR program such as Photmatix, or, if you just want to reduce the contrast you could use a bounced flash.

You also want to get your verticals straight. Set your camera about eye-level on the tripod, and make sure it's not tilted up or down... you'll still have some distortion to fix in post, but you don't want converging verticals... I fixed these in LR, but you get better results if the verticals are straight in the shot.
